Mentee Application Process
Eligibility Criteria
All rising 9th graders (or equivalent) and high school students are eligible. Mentee applicants must be of 13 years of age or greater at the time of beginning CSR-x. Short personal statements are requested. No transcripts or letter of recommendation are required. Application portal has closed for Summer of 2024.
Notification of acceptance are given 1–2 weeks after the closing of the portal. Acceptances are made on a rolling basis, so submitting your application early gives you an advantage. Mentors narrow down a broad subject category into narrower topic(s) based on their experience and expertise. Within the topic, mentees will select specific research questions within the topics based on their interest. Categories include biomedical sciences, ecology & sustainability, physical sciences, behavioral sciences, history, sociology, economics.
Mentor Application Process
Eligibility Criteria
Rising 11th graders and above in high school and all undergraduate college students are eligible to apply to be a CSR-x mentor. Exceptions are made for especially outstanding rising 10th graders. Mentors are carefully vetted through interview rounds and must demonstrate prior knowledge in selected categories and prior experience in student research. Application portal has closed for Summer of 2024.
Expectations
Mentors are expected to be committed to their cohorts. Mentors are trained on how to guide the research process in a peer-to-peer learning environment and are responsible for all the preparation of category-specific materials. Mentors are matched with mentees based on topics of interest. There is little room to change mentors/mentees after initial assignment.
